library

Bright idea!

  Summer Project

A Little Free Library makes a great addition to any elder care residence. A Little Free Library is a “take a book, return a book” gathering place where neighbors share their favorite literature. In basic form, a Little Free Library is a box full of books where anyone can stop by and pick up a book or two and bring back another to share. The website “Littlefreelibrary.org” can tell you much more.

Imagine a Little Free Library outside the entry of an elder care residence! It’s not just free books on a shelf, but there is an understanding that real people are sharing favorite books with their community. The box itself can become a piece of neighborhood art. The benefits are easy to imagine: engage elders as steward leaders to select and stock books, elders can watch neighbors visit and enjoy the box and the box can help create community connections with the care residence. On the website you will find five easy steps, tips for builders, free building designs, ideas for telling the community about your library, and ten reasons to make it official.
